About the Program: “Criminal Execution and Security Services” is a new program that started education with 40 students in the 2020-2021 Academic Year upon the approval of the Council of Higher Education and the cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Justice Directorate General of Prisons and Detention Houses.
Aim of the Program: Corrections officers are the staff members, who are in charge of meeting the requirements of prisoners and convicts in the penal institutions and detention centers such as security, accommodation, health, education etc., who are responsible for playing a role in reintegrating them into society and who take charge in the supervision and monitoring of convicts in the directorates of probation. The aim of this program is to train qualified individuals who are needed and will be employed at the Penal Institutions and Directorates of Probation.
Employment Areas of Graduates: They are employed as corrections officers at the Ministry of Justice Directorate General of Prisons and Detention Houses and at the Directorates of Probation. They will be able to meet the requirement for qualified staff in the mentioned branches in private sectors and in different branches in general. Having a sense of responsibility for our country and society, our graduates will be trained in a way that they will be able to take part in both managerial and intermediate staff positions in the institutions they will work.
Transfer to Higher Degree Programs: If the graduates of this program are successful in the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS), they can benefit from the vertical transfer to the undergraduate programs of “Emergency and Disaster Management”, “Social Services” and “Public Administration”. DGS is an exam for a transfer to a four-year undergraduate education that is repeated every year after graduating from two-year vocational schools and there is a right to take the exam every year. In this exam, there are 80 quantitative and 80 verbal questions. After passing the exam, the student is enrolled in the relevant school, and the adjustment period is started. In addition, it is possible to apply to the appropriate departments of the Open Education Faculty, which is given the right of transfer without exam.
Facilities of the Department: 3 academic staff members in total are working at the department. Besides them, teaching staff members at the Justice Program contribute to the educational activities. In our department, there is a computer laboratory where computer courses are taught.
Preference Statistics of the Program: When the 2018-YKS preferences of the Criminal Execution and Security Services Program are examined , the program has a 100% occupancy rate in state universities. Therefore, it is thought that this program will be preferred by the students not only from the region but also from across the country. The graduates of this program who will be employed as corrections officers at the Ministry of Justice Directorate General of Prisons and Detention Houses and at the Directorates of Probation will have a significant theoretical knowledge about the profession they will practice and will increase the number of employees, who have received university-level education in their profession.
